One of the strangest things about the Boardman area used to be man-made forests of thousands of thousands of trees planted in perfect rows. The owner of that tree farm has sold to a dairy operation who pulled out the trees this summer.
Cows are a fast-growing business in Morrow County. Beef is now Oregon’s No. 1 agricultural export and milk and hay are in the top 10. The skyline will never be the same, but it’s not as if the residents of Boardman got to enjoy the shade – the tree farm was private property anyway. That stretch of highway could get smellier, however, so be warned.
