Seattle Newscaster Went Off Air… When His Audience Learned Why They Burst Into Tears

Seeing our favorite news anchors come on the TV screen in the evenings is like getting a visit from an old friend to finish off our long days. For thousands of Q13 News fans in the Seattle area this daily ritual abruptly ended one night without explanation.

When they finally learned why newscaster Travis Mayfield had disappeared, and why Q13 had been mum about the subject they were shocked.

Not because Mayfield had been terminated or done anything wrong at all. Something horrible happened to him.

His two-year-old son died suddenly.

The boy awoke one night with a bloody nose. He died about 24 hours later in the hospital.

When Travis was ready to talk about what happened he said the only way he knew to keep the memory of his son alive was to do what he does best -- what he does for a living: tell his story.
