I love to see good people doing good things in the world today! Kudos to National Geographic, for spotlighting the story of Seattle's Biochar Working group (SeaChar). They have developed a 'Farm Stove' that burns without harmful emissions. It's called the Estufa Finca and it's innovative clean-burning requires less fuel, and operates on a variety of dry organic materials and produces biochar that the farmers can use as fertilizer.

There has been an issue in the Santos region of Costa Rica where open cooking fires were contributing to deforestation, and respiratory disease among the coffee bean pickers and their children.

SeaChar represents one of the 29 real world projects focusing on innovative energy solutions that have recieved grants from The Great Energy Challenge, a National Geographic initiative in partnership with Shell
