Scary Statistics!

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration teenagers are more likely to first try cigarettes, marijuana, and alcohol in July than any other month.

  • Roughly 5,000 teenagers a day start smoking in July, versus 3,000 to 4,000 per day during the rest of the year.
  • Roughly 4,500 teenagers a day start smoking in July, versus 3,000 to 4,000 per day during the rest of the year.
  • About 11,000 teenagers a day drink alcohol for the first time, versus 5,000 to 8,000 per day during the rest of the year.

Kids DO have more free time to get in trouble during the summer. Maybe I'll call my teenage son on the air and give him the talk ... no not that one .. the substance abuse talk. Stay tuned!
