Last August, two young men (18 and 19) were saved by Nick Stewart and Kevin Hake from their car submerged in a local canal.

Clayton Clark and Jesus Cornejo were stuck in their car upside down with water raging over them when Hake and Stewart dove in to help them escape. One of them smashed the rear window to pull Cornejo from the vehicle, and soon Clark followed. Unfortunately, Clark died a few days later in the hospital.

The officers were awarded the Hometown Hero Award by the American Red Cross this week to commemorate their actions.
