The Hanford Fire Department responded to a 3 a.m. lightning strike Saturday morning that sparked a brush fire at the Hanford site, but no areas of contamination were burned.

The lightning struck near the old Hanford High School, which is a part of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, according to the contractor in charge of firefighting services at the nuclear reservation.

The fire did not get to the old high school as firefighters contained the fire at 14.3 acres with mop up happening about a half-hour after responding to reports of multiple lightning strikes.
