Every week, KORD honors a local soldier serving Eastern Washington in the Washington National Guard. Sgt. Kurt Otte is a tank gunner in the Delta Company 1-161 Infantry Battalion that trains part of the time at the Pasco Armory.

Sgt. Otte enjoys baseball and has two small children ages 8 and 3. He currently lives in Spokane and is a full-time soldier. Most members of the national guard are citizen soldiers with regular jobs.

The Washington National Guard responds to natural disasters and other emergencies when not aiding the full-time military in Afghanistan and around the world.
