Kip Moore‘s first gold single almost never happened. The singer — whose debut album ‘Up All Night’ is in stores April 24 — explains that he and songwriter Dan Couch were finished writing for the day, but pulled out the guitars again to write ‘Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck.’ Hear him tell the whole entertaining story in the video below, which is brought to you exclusively by Taste of Country.

“I just started riffin’ on that riff and was just kinda hummin’,” Moore explains in the clip, “and he was packing up his stuff and he walked out the door and then he was sitting behind the door listening to me and he walked back in and spit out the opening line.”

The story behind the song goes back to Moore’s wilder years, when he was dating a woman older than him who was not impressed by his Isuzu Stylus. Fortunately it broke down one night, and his dad lent him the keys to his truck. “And I picked her up man, and it was like I picked up a whole ‘nother woman,” Moore reveals. “She was, she was a woman that time.”

Moore is previewing a number of the cuts from ‘Up All Night’ in advance of the album release. On Thursday, he shared the story behind ‘Crazy One More Time,’ and the details behind ‘Beer Money,’ ‘Hey Pretty Girl’ and more are on the way.

You can pre-order the album on iTunes, and be sure to check out more from Moore on his official website or on Facebook.
