My favorite Tri-Cities charity has no staff making six figures and never will -- it's a pledge they made. So when I found out the ALS Foundation has 11 staff members making over $100,000 with the CEO making $339,000 I was bothered. I also learned only 27 percent of the donations actually go to ALS research. Is it a worthy charity? My friends still say YES! Find out why and you weigh in.

My friends say only 27% of the USUAL annual budget goes to research, but the rest is still well spent fighting ALS and helping the ALS-affected community.

Truth-or-Fiction website Snopes.com agrees, saying the foundation has a 9/10 rating from groups that critique non profits. It is incredibly transparent and responsible with donations. The ALSF has also said it will use the Ice Bucket Challenge donations as the donors intended.

And here's a philanthropy expert saying we're dead wrong to criticize how much non profits spend on salaries or overhead:

But I'd still rather donate to places where I know my dollars are supporting or fighting the cause I donated to. I've noticed many celebrities pledging their money to a different charity when they complete their Ice Bucket Challenge. What do you think?
