Has Halloween Become Just Adults Impressing Each Other at Parties?

For decades Halloween was about pumpkins, bats, Dracula, goblins, ghosts witches and Frankenstein. It was for kids and it was family friendly. Now stores are selling pregnant fairy costumes for men and sexy skunk outfits! What has happened?! I have a theory:

All of these crazy costumes that make news every year are for adults to impress other adults. They're not for "trick or treating," they're for adults-only parties.

Now, I can't criticize the Halloween party scene. I met someone at a Halloween party that I dated for many years. Our web guy's parents met at a college Halloween party. This radio group used to do a Halloween river cruise for adults years ago that always sold out.
