Threat Made to Kamiakin High School

January 9, 2017

Dear Kamiakin Parents and Guardians,

This letter is to inform you about a threat made to Kamiakin High School late Friday afternoon that was reported to the Kennewick Police Department. Because our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students, we want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.

The threat, written on a bathroom wall, indicated that there would be a shooting at the school on Thursday, January 12. Kennewick police officers immediately responded and investigated. They have not found any information that would substantiate this message as a credible threat. Classes will resume as usual. Kennewick Police will have an increased physical presence on and around campus this week.

All threats to our school or students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. We wanted you to have the facts so you can discuss them with your child(ren) and emphasize the seriousness of the issue.

Sincerely,

Chris Chelin
Principal
