A bill in Olympia to raise the highway speed limit to 75 miles per hour has support in the state senate. The increase would not be mandatory, it would merely give WSDOT permission to raise the limit in certain areas if they chose to.

Public safety experts are concerned high speeds result in more deaths, and Governor Jay Inslee says he's more concerned with congestion in urban areas. But if the WSDOT believes an increase in speed would have minimum impact in rural areas, like Eastern Washington, it would be permitted.
