If you live in, or around the Tri-Cities, you have traveled across the Blue Bridge. Built between 1951 and 1954 at a cost of 7 million dollars, it is surely a recognizable landmark in Eastern Washington.  If you have lived here as long as I have, you will remember when it was the green bridge, green being the State color of Washington and all. The Blue Bridge is probably best know for the amount of car accidents it has on a yearly basis, but did you know it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places? The bridge didn't always have a U.S. flag flying over it, that was added in 1989 when the bridge was being re-decked. The Blue Bridge is officially named,'Pioneer Memorial Bridge', but "blue" is easier to say. Man, if I had a dime every time I crossed that thing in the last 35 years, I would be rich. I've met people while on vacation, and you get to talking them, and mention you are from the Tri-Cities, and tell them where you live and the usual response is,"Is it near the Blue Bridge?"As the mighty Columbia River flows quietly under, she stands strongly above.
