Drug Dealer Gets Caught, City Takes His House!

A Dayton man is regretting his life of crime now that he's doing more than jail time... he's also homeless!

The man's double punishment came because he was dealing out of his house, which was located near a high school.

Dayton City was allowed to exercise a law called "forfeiture." The law started as a way to allow police to seize money they believed was from or for the sale of drugs. Basically it's like charging the money for participating in a crime. Police can use it to take away vehicles, jewelry, computers... all kinds of stuff.

Because he was dealing meth out of his house, the city got permission to take the house!

They plan to sell it and use the money to further their anti-drug enforcement efforts.
