Since 1919, there have only been eleven horses win the triple crown, meaning one horse wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes in the same year. The first horse to do it was Sir Barton, and the last to do was 34 years ago by Affirmed in 1978. Some of the best horses in the history of racing have won the Triple Crown, Secretariat, War Admiral, Count Fleet, and who could forget Seattle Slew who won in 1977. When Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978, the horse Alydar finished second in all three races, that has to leave a mark on you, so close, yet so far away. The race should start at about 3:30 this afternoon. Check out wikipedia for all of the great facts and history behind this great event. Go I'll have another.
