The contractors who hired the welders who worked on the Taylor Bridge near Cle Elum have been asked to pay $60 million for the wildfire the sparks from those welders started.

The companies had been hired by the Washington Department of Transportation to make repairs to the bridge along Highway 10 in the Cascade range.
Due to the high fire danger the work crews were asked to suspend work... but they did not, and a power saw cutting rebar and and a welder both sent sparks down onto weeds below the bridge.

The $60 million settlement includes all the damage from about 120 parties who lost homes, sheds, barns, grazing land, and more property in the fire.

So don't throw cigarettes out the window! You never know when someone might hand you a $60M bill!
